DOGS

To all who entered their dogs for me to go over thank you. I had a fantastic entry and day. The weather was hot but quite cool inside. A few dogs struggled to cope I noticed they were the ones with very short muzzles.

I was surprised how many poor mouths that were entered at a championship show and still seeing flat splayed feet (no pads). Movement in some dogs made me cringe.

I had some large classes which meant I had to send out some good dogs having only six places.

A good expression, short neck slipping to well angled, shoulders level topline good tuck up for a dog, strong back end which helped this dog to move smoothly with little effort.

This was my biggest class with top quality dogs and a few had to go home cardless.
I placed this dog 1st in P.G at Bath Champion show 2003 so I was really pleased when I went over him. He has certainly matured into a top dog. His head is strong but well balanced, not overdone, scissor bite with good check muscle. Front is square with depth of brisket, short neck slipping into well laid shoulders, plenty spring of rib with level topline, good bone and muscle.

This dog was certainly fit (well hard); good strong rear end and bend of stifle with plenty of pad and up on his toes. I knew this dog would move well so it was quite pleasing to see him on the move. This dog had no problem with the heat. He also never took his eyes of me while in the ring. Well deserved his 1st place also R.C.C.
2nd Crampie Rabraka Reloaded
Another potential top dog pushing hard to take 1st place. He has a well balanced head with correct muzzle, ears neat with dark eye with prominent stop. Another good mouth, firm neck going into well laidd shoulders. He was also up on his toes. Good coat – topline was level with firm back end. He also moved well round the ring. This dog I am sure will gain more top placings.

OPEN DOG 21 ENT 9 ABS
1st Jones Irlintch Lackyle Diablial OG
This dog caught my eye when going round the ring – I was looking forward to put my hands over him. I was not disappointed – bang on standard, a well balanced head with enough muzzle, ears correct, eyes dark with prominent stop, teeth perfect lips tight and clean. He stood full square showing his good points, well up on his pasterns, firm neck going into tight well laid shoulder with plenty spring of rib. His movement was smooth and effortless. Did not disturb his topline. I enjoyed his back end going away from me. Every nut and bolt was fixed correct from front to rear and to finish it off coat 1st class. I was glad to award him the C.C and to gain B.I.S.
2nd Van Aken Iraamsden Staffmate Noble Ambassador (ATC Ag00244 NLD)
Very similar in make up to 1st. The head not as strong but still well balanced with enough muzzle, neat ears. No problems with mouth with good under jaw, neck going into well laid shoulders. Good spring of rib, topline was level when viewed from above, good figure of eight. Dog and handler worked together well – on this day movement let him down.

VETS 5 ENT 3 ABS
1st Beaufoy Ch/Irch Wyrefare Prince Naseem
It was a long hot day for these old timers but nevertheless they stood as keen as the youngsters.
Now 11 years old and still keeping his fine qualities so far kept his head shape in good coat condition. Movement was a bit stiff never the less still sound and a twinkle in his eye.
2nd Whilborg Int CH Holstaff Caledonian Chieftan (AG00411 SWE)
Just 7 years new to Vets. Different head shape and build to 1st but still all in working order. He also had a sparkle in his eye. His ears neat but gone grey round muzzle, kept topline when moving.

Bitch Critique

I felt it was a great honour to be asked by the members of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club to judge bitches at their championship show at Bingley Hall, Stafford. Thanks to the officers and committee for presenting a well run show in a special atmosphere. Also many thanks to my two able ring stewards who were very efficient and also the sporting exhibitors and spectators who appreciated that some of my decisions were very close. The overall quality was very high indeed with very few incorrect mouths. When judging I was looking for a balanced bitch this I found in my final placing, some bitches were placed in a lower order due to lack of fitness or condition.
